Happy Plate: Hut’s Alley-Oop

Want to take hamburgers to the next level? Check out this diner, with a menu we love exploring! Hut’s Hamburgers has some great burgers with cool combinations such as Mr. Blue (has bleu cheese crumbles, dressing, Swiss cheese, bacon and lettuce), The All American Buddy Holly Burger (“the works”: mayo, mustard, onions, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes and American cheese all on a burger), The Wolfman Jack (burger with sour cream, diced green chiles, Jack cheese and bacon), and Chubby Chuck’s (has pickles, onions, grated cheddar and hickory sauce) to name a few.

Eating at Hut’s on Wednesdays during Hamburger Happy Hours (6-10pm) may be busy because of their 2 for 1 deal. Order a burger and get another burger (must be the same kind) for free. And on a special day like this, the SMAG munchkins (this visit: me and Oscar) decided to enjoy dinner at a certain hut.

The restaurant is hard to miss at night–just look for the neon sign (there’s also an arrow). There was a couple groups of people outside but, luckily, there were two open seats at the bar. Our eyes adjusted to the dim lights as we looked over the menu and I saw one of those deer heads that hunters hang on their wall (not real, of course). All the walls were covered with photos and the bar was coated with license plates, some with funny letter combinations. There were also some TVs showing a basketball game.

Whether the game affected our meal choice I know not, but we ended up trying The Alley-Oop this time around. It’s a beef burger with grilled onions, swiss cheese, and 1000 island dressing on grain bread. Unlike the other burgers, this one comes on sandwich bread. You might think a little bit less of it, but boy is it good. It was not soggy and held together well even with all the delicious sauce, the ‘yum’ factor of this burger. The whole combo was great and I’d definitely order this again. If you and a friend are taking advantage of the 2 for 1 deal and need help deciding on one burger (and want to avoid a fight afterward), I recommend The Alley-Oop.

Also good if watching some b-ball.
