I like to keep my TV series to a limit — I’m one of those who gets obsessed and ends up watching seven seasons of Doctor Who in just a month! But there is so much good television, I can’t keep away. Here are a few TV premieres and films to get excited for.
TV picks: Downton Abbey, New Girl, Parks and Recreation, Game of Thrones
Downton Abbey — It picks up right where season two left off: Mary and Mathew’s wedding. The war is over but the fight has just begun for Downton Abbey. In this season you’ll see the family fighting for Downton to stay afloat as the times change. Premiered January 6.
New Girl — The quirky family is staying strong as Jess has a job and a love interest as well as Nick. If you’re looking for a show that will keep you laughing this one is definitely a must. Premiered January 8.
Parks and Recreation — We will meet up with Leslie Knope and Ben again. This season should pick up with their wedding and the creation of the park they have been working on since season one! This is another show that will have you laughing the entire episode and one that is critically acclaimed. Premiered January 17.
Game of Thrones — Hopefully this time winter will be coming. This show has been by far the best I have seen in a long time…and who can beat zombies, dragons, and witchcraft?! This show really brings everything alive in a way that will keep you guessing. But please do not fall in love with any of the characters. What this show is famous for is making the viewers go on a rollercoaster of emotions. Premieres March 31.
Other TV series to look forward to: Modern Family, Smash, and Girls, which just won a golden globe for TV writing.
Those should satisfy the TV addict, so now on to picks for the film lovers.
Film picks: Oz, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel
Oz: The Great and Powerful — Besides having James Franco in it, I mainly am very curious to watch this because every single movie I have been to since last year has had a trailer for this movie. Come out already! In theaters March 8.
Iron Man 3 — Let’s face it, Robert Downey Jr. as the Iron Man is a delight to watch. Not to mention that he practically makes the Avengers. His sassy attitude as the Iron Man has had me wanting more ever since number one came out. In theaters May 3.
Man of Steel — Okay, okay. So we know that there has been quite a few Superman movies and none have surpassed those of Batman. But what if we get the same director as 300 and produce it by the director of The Dark Knight? That’s right Zack Snyder is directing and Christopher Nolan is producing Man of Steel. Ah, so you’re curious too? Well, you’ll find out if this is a hit or miss this year. In theaters June 14.
Also of note: Sin City, Despicable Me, Paranormal Activity, and Grown Ups all have sequels this year.
What are your thoughts on this year’s entertainment?
