Fusing electronic synthesizers and drums, Idiotape are creating a unique idiosyncratic sound of their own. Formed in Seoul, South Korea, in 2010, the trio consists of Dguru (producer/ synthesizer), Zeze (synthesizer), and DR (drums). Influenced by rock music from 1960s and 70s, Idiotape combines rock spirit with synth riffs and electrifying rhythms accompanied with live drums.
In July of 2010, the band released their debut EP “0805” and began playing across various music festivals such as Global Gathering Korea and the Pentaport Rock Festival. In November of 2011, they issued their first full length album “11111101,” which led them to win the ‘Best Dance Electronic Album’ award at the Korean Music Awards and ‘Album of the Year’ at the Imagine Awards. In 2012, Idiotape participated in the Converse Showcase ‘3 Artist 1 Song’ collaboration. The song ‘#PeepShow’ combined different and distinct music genres from the three artists. In 2013, Idiotape was also a part of the collaborative project for “10 Corso Como X SM Entertainment Collaboration Seoul Melody,” in which SM Entertainment released an album of remix songs from various artists. The track Idiotape remixed: “Ice Cream” by SM artist F(x). Listen to it here. Check out their latest release, the single “With The Flow.”
>>> GLEN CHECK: Thursday, March 13, 2014 >> Icenhauer’s > 10 – 10:40 pm
Glen Check is a South Korean indie band, comprised of June One Kim (vocals/guitar) and Hyuk Jun Kang (bass/synth). Their music has been described by many different genres such as electro-pop, synth-rock, and indie dance-pop. The guys themselves mentioned that they don’t want their music to be defined or limited by one specific genre. They plan to continue to progress and experiment with creating their music.
One thing that set the duo apart is their focus on visual representation. The use of elaborate, avant-garde style graphics to accompany their music adds a new element to their performances. In February of 2012, the duo released their first full length album “Haute Couture.” It got them nominated for ‘Rookie of the Year’ at the 2013 Korean Music Awards and the band won the ‘Best Dance and Electronic Album of the Year’ award. Similar to Idiotape, the band also participated in the 10 CC X SM Seoul Melody, with a remix of SHINee’s “Hello.” Listen to Glen Check’s remix here.
The band released their second full length album “Youth!” in November of 2013. The album inspiration is based on the spirit and culture of the young generation. They conveyed the influence of the environment and atmosphere of the youth and interpreted it to images and sounds. Check out their latest single “Young Generation.”
